We are a small, highly specialized firm. Each consultant has at least 25 years of relevant experience. Our customers find us to be flexible, approachable, easy to work with, practical, and effective. Our work in competency systems is based on solid research, much of it learned from our association with McBer and Company, the firm that created and perfected job competency modeling. The research is described in Competence At Work, published by John Wiley & Sons. Our own dictionary of 34 competencies [113kb PDF] and behaviors is an integral part of our work.

Global Perspective
Training and consulting for multi-national firms outside of the United States, licensing our products and services to consulting firms In Poland and Romania, and publishing a Resource Guide for Global HR Competencies.

Software and Technology
Partnering with Halogen Software to make our competencies and developmental resources available to users of Halogen's human resources suite of programs. Offering a virtual resource panel for organizations developing job models in widely dispersed locations.
About Competencies
Competencies include behaviors, skills, knowledge, values, self-image, traits, & motives.

A job competency model is a "blueprint" that describes the underlying characteristics (or competencies) of an individual that drive behavior leading to superior performance in a job.

Our History

Merit Group, Inc. (aka Merit Performance) was founded in 1982 in Birmingham, Michigan and relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1984. We became Plum International in 2001 and Workitect, Inc. in 2005.
